Thank you, but I use kpowersave, and to reduce the temperature I set the
policy to "powersafe", it works, but the high temperature on policy
"performace" was not normal.

Good idea, I found a week ago something on the problem with acpi and fan
speed so I'didn't think to the simple solution :)
There was a printer process who use a lot o CPU.
I removed it and I'm waiting to view the result

thesis for the master in Computer Science. So I don't think to be stupid,
but I think that I don't have enough time looking for something that in

stupidity in real world programming.

I have an old IBM 386X laptop (p120, 72M ram (officially it will ony take
48M but it sees 72).
I have run Linux and XP on it.
It takes ages to boot (5 mins) but its OK for web and email once its up.
There are plenty of small linux distros that will be fine.
I wouldn't try ubuntu on it.

I used an Informix based solution years ago. The total bill was 6
figures. At the bottom was 'informix license' and 'SCO unix license'

A couple of hundred each.

Almost irrelevant in the overall context.

I have installed XP Pro on a 8 yr old cer Travelmate that was designed
for Win 2000 with 512Mb and runs quite reasonably,it is very usable.

You wanna see the definition of "unusable," some early XP machines came
from the factory with only 128MB of memory. Compaq and Emachines seem
to be the primary offenders, but I have come across others as well.

Not so long ago. I had a DEC Multia, Pentium version, which took 2.5"
hard drives. so it was relatively easy to install linux onto the hard
drive on this. Unfortunately it died (bummer).

The ones I have have no CDrom drive. Hmm might be a basic distro that is
still on floppy I could try.

Well the sorting out IIRC is at UDEV level.

I suspect a better line of approach might be to hack UDEV rules to
differentiate between them.

Star off my running udevmonitor,( or udevadm monitor in later releases),
to trace what happens when it gets plugged in.

Then have a peek at /etc/udev/rules.d (I think) to see if you can work
out what default its falling under, and either hack that, or write a new
one to deal with it in a special way.

Of course if whatever its meant to control is expecting it to look like
a keyboard..you are in shit.
