Yes it's noisier but not bothersome. What do you think do I need to get another Accelero? I see that they are still for sale. For the moment I've sped up the fans.

I don't think you need one, Larry. For me it was a necessity because my Mac Pro is on top of the desk within 3 feet of my chair (to keep it in a less dusty location than the floor). I had gotten used to the original card being totally silent and the whirr of the X1900, added as an aftermarket upgrade, was very annoying. The noise, not heat, was what prompted me to add the Accelero in the first place. So far I've been really lucky with this machine. No hardware problems!

Thanks for the correction on how to measure leading. In this case I was using Point Type instead of Paragraph Type, but it didn't seem to matter since the results were the same. Are you saying the two should be different when adjusting leading?

Below is an example screenshot zoomed in at 500% to help visualize what I'm talking about. I created the same file in both Photoshop CS for Windows and Photoshop CS4 for Mac. I used Lucida Sans, Roman, 12 pt, aliased, 20 pt leading. I also included horizontal rules spaced out by 20 px. When I check the pixel height for the leading on the Mac/CS4 side (left) via the Info panel, it comes out to either 26 or 27 px. The Windows/CS side (right) comes out to 20 px.

Your problem stems from the fact that you are still confusing Points with Pixels.

You specified your 12 pt Text and 20 pt Leading in POINTS and the spacing of your Rules as 20 PIXELS.

Go back to that experiment that I asked you to do a few weeks ago and work through it again until you understand it.

You could try using Faux Underscores or by creating a table in Illustrator or InDesign but if this Text is for a web site, you really should be doing this in html anyway.

Ok, forget the rules... that may be confusing the matter. My point is that I expected the lines to be equidistant from each other (this is the case for Photoshop CS on Windows). If you have a sec, would you please try this experiment?

1) Create a new image
2) Create a text layer
3) Set your type to Lucida Sans, Regular, 12 pt, 20 pt leading (kerning, tracking, vertical and horizontal scales, baseline shift, etc. should all be set to their defaults)
4) Type about 10 lines of text with a carriage return after each line

Are the lines of text equidistant from each other?

Go back to that experiment that I asked you to do a few weeks ago and
work through it again until you understand it.

I went back and took a pretty thorough look at my previous threads and did a search for your posts, but I couldn't find this experiment you're referring to. Is it possible you suggested this to someone else?

Thanks, but the horizontal rules were just for reference here. I'm not creating simple text links.

Baseline to baseline? Absolutely they are!
But I am using Paragraph Text — with the whole Type box set for 12/20.

Just as a test, try it with Faux Underscores and then measure the distances because I don't think that you can be seeing the true Baseline of the font at the moment.

Also, check your Paragraph Panel if you are inserting Carriage Returns because you may have extra space set for insertion before or after each paragraph?

VERY!

But I will try to find it for you if I have time later.

Thanks for your help Chris...I guess I've figured out a work around so to speak or rather the best way to approach the issue.... was not accurately describing the problem...as I was trying to run the photomerge from within Bridge...which consistently resulted in no image ( worked on the images offered though ) ...and still does however, if I do it within photoshop...I DO get an image in the end....

Again...thanks

Have you tried purging the cache in Bridge for each offending folder through the Tools menu in Bridge?

Avoid the global purge cache command in Bridge preferences.

Hi, I am working on a Mac book pro. I have recently noticed a warning message coming up on console messages when I open Photoshop, or indeed any of my adobe programmes. Part of the message that shows is detailed below. Please can anybody advise what is causing this. Have the programmes been corrupted in some way? Is Class EpicController part of the software? the message then repeats with Class EpicJSWindowExternalHandler and Class EpicWizardController

12/03/2009 09:20:47 [0x0-0x1d01d].com.adobe.Photoshop[151] objc[151]: Class EpicController is implemented in both /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_personalization.framework/adobe_personalization and /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_registration.framework/adobe_registration. Using implementation from /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_registration.framework/adobe_registration.

Any help with this, gratefully received - Thanks

Someone else reported this recently.

It is apparently a false message (caused by an error in OSX) and can safely be ignored.

I know I can send at least 20MB attachments and someone sent me a 35MB
attachment the other day.

You need a new ISP

A new ISP is not needed. An understanding of the inefficient transfer of files via email is needed. Limiting to 2MB is a sign that the mail administrator is quite bright.

People need to stop sending large files by email. Email only handles text files - so any binary file you transfer must be encoded to text (MIME). This results in an inflated file size. What's the point in trying to compress to JPEG if you are going to blow the file up again via MIME?

Invest in FTP/HTTP services that allow you to post images, then announce the FTP/HTTP location to your recipients via email. By setting up a better workflow, you won't have to nitpick which JPG compression method works best.

Most often I email a url. That always seems easier for everyone. "The correct file is up... now". But an unknown media partner who asks for an emailed JPG gets an emailed JPG, until I'm comfortable they're comfortable with the alternative.

I appreciate the responses.

You don't necessarily need RAW. You can batch process them with the Lens correction filter. Just need to record an action step, and do it that way.

My thinking...

Ground yourself with a strap before working inside your computer.

Work in an area where the dust and dirt doesn't just get blown elsewhere that will become a problem to clean up. I've found that blowing air dislodges dirt that is in difficult-to-reach areas. Be careful not to tilt or shake the can to keep the propellant from spitting out.

And then use a small vacuum (perhaps with electrical tape wrapped around the end of the nozzle to prevent static discharge) can be used to pick up the dislodged dirt. Large/high-suction vacuums are more likely to dislodge delicate components.

Keep pets, cigarette smoke, and liquids away from the computer and keyboard for safety and cleanliness. Keep the computer well off the floor and away from dusty environments. Clean inside the computer at least twice a year, even in clean environments. Make sure there is plenty of space around the computer and nothing blocking the vents to help keep it cool.

Neil

John,

You can't put 5 pounds of anything in a mini mac. As Neil said, "I took it as creative writing."

Welles, The mini went back to its owner yesterday. My buddy told me that between he and his wife and 4 daughters, that their bad boy has been humming. I was amazed after breaking open the case, and blowing out dust, (which made the mini happy), Improved the performance tremendously with general maintence.

I did the same thing for my mac and I rarely here the fan.

Thanks everyone who contributed to this tread!

Mike

I committed the egregious crime of selecting U.S. English when in fact I had a copy of International English, and was duly informed that my serial number was incorrect. So after I figured out what was amiss, I had to backtrack, and confess that my true localization was International English, whereupon my serial number was accepted, I was pardoned and I could continue the long march to installation.
