Another way to go about this would be to comapre a screen shot of the About Plug-in list (or 2 if they down all fit on one screen) against the plug-ins in the application directory. Also, are you pointing to an additional plug-in directory in your preferences? If so compare against that too.

What is the message you see, btw?

I am not sure that Onyx even existed when I bought into Cocktail for the wildly expensive price of $15.
All subsequent upgrades have been free so there has really been no incentive for me to test Onyx — although I accept your word on its merits.

why NOT try the free thing first?

It is not a matter of 'trying'. We know some of us have already paid for Cocktail. It is a matter of 'recommending'. We all know that Onyx does what Cocktail does so the idea of recommending a paid app for a problem of which we are uncertain seems odd. Why would anyone suggest that Robin pay for something that may or may not work to correct this particular issue? ...especially when MacJanitor is already being used and the machine is left on during normal cron tasks. We're here to help fellow users, not sell software.

In any event, Repairing Permissions and/or running the Cron Scripts cannot
hurt.

No it won't. But continually auto-pasting permission repair nonsense throughout the forum can hurt by misinforming others. Ramon did well to post links to tech docs on apple.com regarding maintenance that typically runs at night. Why doesn't he also add an apple.com link to the first part of his auto-paste to clarify his misunderstanding of permission repair?

The entire debate over system maintenance seems very odd for the regulars here. Don't we know better? It has been long known that SFW can be unusually slow on either platform (just google for 'slow photoshop save for web'). This is not likely a Mac-specific issue that can be resolved with Mac maintenance. I don't recall any Adobe representative ever explaining the reason why it happens to some. While system maintenance is certainly a first step to troubleshooting, those of us that want to invest in a heavy discussion on this topic would do well to look deeper into this phenomenon than to dwell on the first basic step of maintenance. It looks like Robin already has the computer operating as it should.

I'd revisit post #8.

Tried changing preferences.

Robin, does this mean that they were reset? If not, try resetting them entirely.

Again - smartest way to work, turn off application frame, and 'Open docs
as Tabs' preference. If you still want tabbed documents, they are still
available - holding down the control key and dragging into the title area
of a frame.

Hey Mark, are you saying that turning off the Application Frame and "Open Documents as Tabs" preference turns off tabs completely? I've done this on my version of CS4 and this isn't the case at all. Simply dragging-and-dropping a window to the ruler area of another window automatically turns it into a tab (without the help of a control key).

I am looking for a good online photo print shop in UK that is willing to provide customers with an ICC profile for its printers/papers used so that I can soft proof output prior to submitting. Maybe whistling in the wind - however someone here might know better.

ps: A printer offering the above for fine art quality paper such as Photo Rag would be icing on the cake. Thanks for your time.

I understand the diffrence between CMYK and RGB but...

My colours look dull on screen in CMYK - what if I want to send something to a client? I can't send a PDF off for approval with all dull looking colours even if the final print will look brighter?

What am I missing?

If You are convinced the print will look significantly different than previewed on screen, the ICC-profile would have to be either badly done or wrong for the actual print process.
Which profile do You use and what are the print-conditions?

Have You assigned the same profile as used in separation to the pdf (in Acrobat if necessary)?

What application are you using to view?
If the client is not in involved in the printing process and will only see the proof on screen, send the proof in RGB.

Also if your monitor is not profiled correctly what makes you think that your clients will be?

No, I don't think you do...and what you are seeing when you convert to CMYK is a reasonable representation of what the color _WILL_ look like when printed. So, if you really DID understand the differences between RGB & CMYK, the result you see on screen shouldn't surprise you. The halftone reproduction process uses inks whose colorants are far, far short of pure spectral properties and as a result, the colors will always be dull in CMYK when compared to the RGB originals. That's a fact of life (and physics).

I suspect the networking aspect of the hub is causing your problems. Why did you get this? You're connecting to an EXISTING network - the TC will take care of your networking needs - all you need is a simple, "dumb" hub which will not require any software.

A hub connected to your TimeCapsule should work fine. I've been thinking about doing the same thing with my Airport Extreme router (essentially, the same thing as TimeCapsule w/o the hard drive)

Hi Phil,

Thanks for responding. See below...

I suspect the networking aspect of the hub is causing your problems. Why
did you get this?

I thought it was a simple USB Hub that would extend my ports.

What are you using the ethernet jack of the hub for?

I think it's the only way to connect to the TimeCapsule. I could possibly get a USB cable that is flat on both ends and try hooking it that way.

I guess that's what I thought I was getting.

If you do, let me know what you end up getting. I thought this was a simple hub.

Are you trying to get this to work via the network? Totally unnecessary and overcomplicating matters. TimeCapsule has a USB port. Just connect the hub through USB and you should be good to go.

But I would buy another USB-only hub. The Belkin you linked appears to be a wireless device that you allows you to connect USB devices. That's a feature you don't need as it essentially duplicates the function of your TC.

If you want pscs4 to do the colormanagement, you can choose preview in the printdialog. The Preview.app shows the correct profiled imageprintout and does the printing without colormanagement by printer driver.

when exporting from sketchup a kmz file ( place a sketchup model into google earth ) it automatically opens up Photoshop, something that I don't want. When checking the file info, it states that KMZ files are opened with Photoshop. I log in as admin and change the file association to Google earth and apply the changes to all. It jumps back to use Photoshop as default each time.

I suspect something in Photoshop makes it that it defaults to open .kmz files. I need to disable this. How can I disassociate Photoshop from opening .kmz files by default

Adobe CS4 extended, Macbook pro OS 10.5.6

this is a system level function and has nothing to do with Photoshop.

Highlight the file.

Do a Get Info.

now change the open with application.

I did that, many times it keeps changing back to photoshop.. it drives me nuts and it happened after I installed CS4, hence my wondering if it has something to do with PS.

Ann asked: If you have CS4, why would you want to use iPhoto anyway?

One reason might be: Because iPhoto '09 has face recognition and geo-tagging of images and some other very smart features on top of that too like direct upload to Facebook and Flickr jsut to mention some new things. It's really very nice.
