Hello all, I have just written to the owner of the group and sent these messages. This is getting way out of contron and believe me, when I say that if it continues, this group will just fall apart. I have run three groups with over 3500 members and would never allow this. Do yourself a favor, if you see any messages about this again, just delete them and don't get involved. When you do, it just ads fuel to the fire. The best way to stop this it to totally ingore it and once again I am speaking from experience. May the Good Lord Bless and keep you all and keep his love in your heart. Hugs Please feel free to do whatever you want to do to this stat. The Lord has allowed me to get all my material for free and I feel you should also. Rip it apart, add to or take away from it, it's all good to me. I just ask that you send your results to me so I can learn from others experience. HUGS May the good Lord Bless and keep you and yours. Firstly, I was not calling anyone in particular, specifically Judy, ignorant or stupid. Did I mention her name in those last two paragraphs? No, I did not - I said "people". "People" is used as a term of generality. Now, if I had said "you people"(or Judy), then yes, I would be specifically calling many someones who subscribe to this group "ignorant and stupid". However, that's not what I said. Trust me, if I think someone's ignorant or stupid, I do not have any qualms with saying. "You're ignorant/stupid, XXXXX".
I merely corrected her on the fact that the Pledge hadn't been without "one nation under God" for over 100 years; 1954(when under God was added) - 1892(when the Pledge was actually written) = 62. That's not "over 100 years", now is it? Unless my math is wrong, which it obviously is not, I still don't understand how her "facts" are correct. The rest of what I wrote were facts surrounding the Pledge; historical information which should be known by all since elementary school. And yes, people are indeed ignorant and stupid when it comes to the government's use of the word "God".
Secondly, I never said whether or not I was religious. I could be agnostic or an atheist for all anyone knows. Or I could be Roman Catholic, Buddhist, Jewish, etc. I wasn't stating facts due to any religious beliefs that I may or may not hold, but rather because they were simply facts that told the whole story.
Now that I've said that, here's some wavy brushes...

I wish I had not posted the reply. My only thought in posting the FYI message was I thought it interesting info. Judy

I just want to say that I have been in a few really good groups that just fell apart because of messages like this. I would like to say how I feel about this. I truly believe we should all respect each others opinions as far as their faith goes. These messages should not be posted to the group but sent to the individual they are meant for. Name calling like "STUPID" "IGNORANT" and other names should NEVER be allowed to be posted to the group. I don't know what your faith tells you to do but as a Christian, we are taught by Jesus Christ to love our enemies and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Can't we try to put that in practice here. You are all great people and really good at PSP. Why don't we just stick to that? Hugs May the good Lord Bless and keep you and yours. Ron B. -------Original Message------- Date: 5/22/2009 11:08:56 AM Subject: [PSP-Snags] Re: PLEDGE If you're going to give a history lesson, please get your facts straight and tell the whole story instead of just a tidbit to further your ideology. I don't mean that in a rude way, but if you're going to put something like that out there, do expect someone to challenge them.
It was written by a man of God - Baptist Minister, Francis Bellamy - in honor of Columbus Day in 1892 and was intended for students to recite as a show of national solidarity and pride. So, no, the Pledge wasn't around for over 100 years without those words "one nation under God" as you claim.
The original Pledge: "I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."
"the flag of the United States of America" was added to ensure immigrants who became legal US citizens understood that Old Glory was now their flag.
During WW2, people found solace in the Pledge of Allegiance and already had begun to solidify the interwoven correlation between the Pledge and God since it was a time of great turmoil...and death.
One of the most famous speeches in US history is the Gettysburg Address. I suppose, in some people's eyes, it was just plain wrong for Abraham Lincoln to declare "under God" in that speech. And that's just where "one nation under God" is derived.
The problem with the word "God" in the Pledge and other similar "controversies" is that some people often relate it to only one God from one religion: Christianity. What the minority of people here in the US, and the majority around the world, fail to realize for whatever reason(perhaps it's beyond their comprehension or out of sheer ignorance) is that people fled Europe for the new country to escape religious persecution. People came here seeking a place where they could practice(or even not practice) whatever religion they wanted. That is the basis of how and why this country was born. "God" is intended to mean all Gods from all religions, not just one God.
It's such a shame that people are so full of hatred and spite, as well as stupidity, that they refuse to acknowledge the literal intention and interpretation of the government's use of the word "God.".

It was during the McCarthy era in 1954 and caused a lot of controversy. The pledge was withour those words for over a hundred years before that. Just interestin tidbit. Judy

........... .....let' s get this started now, So it will be out there on the fourth!!!!
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ,
AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS,
ONE NATION UNDER GOD,
INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY
AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
KEEP IT LIT!! KEEP IT LIT!
For All of our other military personnel, where ever they may Be Please Support all of the troops defending our Country.
And God Bless our Military who are protecting our Country for our Freedom. Thanks To them, and their sacrifices we can celebrate the 4th of July
We must never forget who Gets the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we should be Eternally grateful..
I watched the flag Pass by one day, It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine Saluted it, And then he stood at ease..
I looked at Him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, With hair cut square And eyes alert He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men Like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign Soil How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes Shot down? How many died at sea How many foxholes were soldiers' Graves ? No, freedom isn't free
I heard the sound of Taps One night, When everything was still, I listened to the bugler
Play And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant 'Amen,'
When a flag had draped a Coffin. Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the Children, Of the mothers and the wives, Of fathers, sons and Husbands With interrupted lives.
I Thought about a graveyard At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington . No, freedom isn't free.
Enjoy Your Freedom &God Bless Our Troops
When You receive this, please stop for a moment And Say a Prayer for our servicemen. Of all the gifts you could give A US Soldier, Prayer is the very best One. | | | | | |
