Howard,
All sites that came up just loved the heck out of it. I only found one site that had indept pro's and con's listed. Lots of other sites to read too.

Yeah!! After trying it 5 more times, and this time clicking all the keys at once-----the dear dialogue box showed up. Guess there's truth to the thought 'try and try again'......thanks Zeno!.................mm

Then turn off UAC!

Also C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings

I guess you can forget the "roaming"cs4 settingscscc part on 32-bit Vista.

You could just type "cs4 settings" in that wonderful little search box above the Start button.

Do you have Service Pack 1? as that drastically reduces the amount of UAC dialogs that you get. I for one haven't seen one in a couple of months

You're not supposed to unless you're installing new software all the time. In a stable, running environment I don't think you'll ever see it.

Nevertheless, I got so p'd off with it from the start that logical arguments simply don't apply here. It stays off, and that's that.

John, dear Vista is new to me too--thanks for the suggestion to type in CS4 settings in the start area. I'll give that a try. We need UCS because our family uses the machine and I'm tightly guarding what they do and where they go. That box IS a pain.....m

If you can't see it, it means that you're trying it on the background layer in which case, double click on it in the Layers panel(not on the thumbnail or the name) and click OK to turn it into a normal layer and try again

Do you mean a border on the image? (Different from a bounding box, which is a computer term for a transformable selection with eight rectangles at the corners and sides.)

I think the information about i7 stability issues concern people overclocking and not finding their system sweet spot. Once they have dialed everything in they are happy. If you don't overclock then you should not have any problems. Just do the normal research on what works best with what component.

Either that, or BIOSes aren't quite ready. They'll get updated and bug-fixed. The i7 is still new.

A lot of people had initial stability problems with Vista 64 because the mobos didn't fully support more than 4GB with the then-current BIOS versions. But they caught up.

Hi,

I'm on an HP laptop - Win XP Home Edition - 1 gb RAM, plenty of space.

So, after major, continuous crashing in Photoshop CS3, I decided to see if CS4 would work ok. It was nice, but I let the trial expire and decided to continue to see if 3 would get in gear.

I removed the trial software (i thought)

Today, I uninstalled CS3, so I could reinstall the whole thing rather than repairing it. It won't reinstall because the CS4 files have been moved.

is there some way to completely wipe out all reference to 4?

thanks in advance!

dana

Things happen, computers die or get corrupted... go right NOW and burn that download file to a CD, along with a text file containing your purchase & registration information

Hi there.

PS CS3.

99% of what I do in PS is for the web, therefor no need for printing. But,
everytime I create a new image, it takes almost forever to start openening
the canvas according to the sizes I have selected it to be.
My printer is on a shared network and therefor before the new canvas is
created, first needs to talk to the printer.

Is there some way I can disbale this need for PS to first talk to my
printer?

Thanx so long.

Deon

I'm not sure I agree with Dave (sorry man); I'd use XP x64 over Vista, (Server 2003 is the same thing) and not upgrade to Windows 7 until it's at SP2. XP x64 works just fine with Photoshop 4 in my experience having installed both @ several large clients.

I was unable to get SSD performance values before the artist RMA'd the X25-E.

Ultimately 5 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12s were reportedly installed by the artist (as a RAID0 presumably), but he continued to have problems. He seems uninterested in having me help to diagnose where the bottleneck exists, so I have no benchmarks to share with that setup.

My guess is that he lost confidence in my being able to help after the system failed to perform to his desired levels when it was first built. I hear he's enlisting the help of someone with nine years of Photoshop experience. I hope he can do something. If I hear any information about their progress I will share it.

Thanks Raymond.

Sounds like he will find out the hardway that sometimes a system just can't be tossed together, expect it to go POOF, and be perfect.

PC / Intel Core2Duo E7200 / 4gb RAM / ATI Radeon 4850 512mb
Vista 64
Wacom Intuos3 w/6.1.0-6 drivers (2008) the latest i believe
Photoshop CS4 11.0.1
LCD panel 60hz

After getting the .1 patch I am still experiences brush lag in CS4 with OpenGL turned on. Its not as bad but bad enough that I have to ask for help.

Rotation tool used to be really laggy before the patch but has no issues now.. it rotates with zero lag.

The brush lag still exist. Sometimes it better then others. It seems that the whole program gets slow when its lagging. Using curves even becomes a chore.

When OpenGL is turned back off and I restart PS everything is perfect again.

I have been leaving OpenGL off unless I really needed the rotate tool (and i use that tool quite often)...

I recently decided to upgrade to the Intuos4 and the rotate wheel on it begs to be used for Rotation tool.

Whats the latest workarounds or fixes to the lag problem with OpenGL?
