Finally back online! back to business! I have been trying to run an action in photoshop. Im having problems within the action in the save for web dialog box. The save for web command offers me the choice to resize the image but when i run the action it adjusts the size proportionatly. secondly if i resize the image through the menu options i seem to lose a ton of image quality. Is there a patch to change the save for web dialog box to resize based on a consistent image size 400x400 pixels instead of a direct proportion.

Or how do i program my own patch to change the settings. Everything is possible!

any time you resize an image, you're either adding (enlarging) or throwing away (shrinking) pixels. the correct way to do it is to create your image in the proper size from the start. i.e. if you need an 800px x 200px image, START by creating a new image at 800px x 200px.

I migrated to fanless, big heat sink video cards for that reason.

I just finished grafted an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1(rev2) onto a Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 following the method outlined at <http://www.silentpcreview.com/article793-page1.html> and it's totally silent, except for a 120mm fan set to low that was recommended by the same silentpcreview article.

Now back to XP with CS4...

If I go to CS4's Preferences -> Performance -> OpenGL Advanced Settings and turn off some of the features the lag is reduced substantially to the point that I can work with the app easily:

1) Vertical Sync : Worse choice/ very sluggish drawing response

2) 3D Interaction Acceleration:
Slows things a bit

3) Force Bilinear Interpolation:
Doesn't slow things down (might even help?)

4) Advanced Drawing, Use for Image Display, Color Matching:
Doesn't slow things down

All the bells and whistles of PSCS4 seem to be working fine with 1 and 2 disabled.

FWIW this card works fine in Vista64. Hope this might help some who use Radeon cards and for whom these simple settings changes might help.

Didn't help, Russel, but thanks for the post.

To reiterate: My biggest problem with CS4, with OGL enabled, is dragging an open window around. When I do that, the content disappears. Chris Cox has said (somewhere in this never-ending thread) that Adobe has been unable to reproduce the problem. This leaves me with a very empty feeling, update-wise.

I know, without searching, that other people have seen this. Are any of you still out there?

If you have the Drive already installed, it is not necessary to uninstall PS. Go to Device manager, remove programs, and click on PS as you would to uninstall. This will bring up a dialog to allow you to remove all or just components of CS4. In fact, this is exactly what I am doing with Adobe Drive as I type this response.

THANKS, Jimmy-

In fact, I did not uninstall PS... I used the PS CD and clicked on the PS category and unchecked everything else but Bridge.

It ran for about 10 minutes and when it was done all the extraneous detritus was removed and all the settings and shortcuts in PS and BR remained intact.

Guess there are quite a ffew ways to deal with this pesky new "feature" <g>

cheers,

tom

Wacom tablets

If you swap to the mouse it would appear that the tablet setting would temporarily disable or at least, Photoshop, becomes unaware of tablet pen input(perhaps logically as there is no information between the pen and the tablet being transmitted), BUT, as soon as the pen makes contact with the tablet it is active again. This is visible when you have brush panel open - despite this - there seems to be no decremental functionality. At least as far as I can see.

Okay, forget my last messages. Yes, Alien Skin's upgrade for the autolayer.8li file did work, but only for about an hour, then I lost my menu items for "arrange documents" again. I sent them an e-mail, but have not heard back yet.

I hate software...sigh...

I will try safe mode it a few days. As for the .psp file there is none in that folder (or any files for the matter) and I do have view hidden files enabled

you wouldn't see it if the app has never successfully run. it's created on 1st use. not installed from the disc.

I need to edit some animated gifs. I can edit them in Elements 5, but have
not figured out how to do that in CS3. Is it possible, and if yes, how
please?

Thank you.

Thanks for the help!

I actually found a solution for this...

<http://windowsxp.mvps.org/openwithadd.htm>

It worked perfectly for Vista-64, for each of the three programs that would not populate in the "default programs" dialogue (PhotoShop was only one of them). After doing a LOT of careful research, I have discovered that this is a VERY common problem in Vista (regardless of the file-type and/or program that you are trying to set defaults for), but it seems to be plaguing the 64-bit version more frequently than the 32-bit version.

I hope this helps others experiencing the same issues. ;-)

I run the setup file and it does the checking system process... then goes into the actual install menu and not more than 10 seconds into that 2nd menu I get "critical errors were found in setup. Please see setup log file for details". That is all I can get out of the install.

The message window that I get the error in indicates windows Internet Explorer.

That is the my entire process. I have searched and found the log file and I have looked through it, but I am having a hard time finding the actual cause of the error. Out of shear frustration I removed all my adobe products and tried the install again and had the same exact problem. So I know there is something stopping me some where... just don't know what it could be.

Thanks,
Scott =
