I hope you are not writing on the same computer and Internet connection that is accepting the D/L. I wondered about that here, as I was doing exactly that, along with my SO doing her thingy over the Internet at the same time.

looks like it's in the right place. running setup.exe...
1st thing is it wants access to the "trusted zone". didn't check the port. hmm... ok. granted.
what again? another trusted zone request. localhost to port 4522... ok. granted again. grr...
oh. can't continue because firefox is running. nice. ... grr... i'll open notepad and record to there...

I'm off to try installing on a dual boot system, two separate downloads. One difference: the current Photoshop there is CS2.

<homer>arrgglllllgghhh...</homer> :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ok continuing the saga:
closed firefox. hit retry.
select "run as trial".
accept the "uncopyable" license agreement. hint: some people actually read these things. it's kinda a nice gesture to the user to allow them to copy the license language so they can paste it into a program like word pad and change the font to something more readable the standard legal dept licensing's 2pt Beelzebub Semi-Bold. ...
now the choice... do i choose "easy install" or "custom"? there's a freaking lot of components to install...
I select "custom" but leave all options checked. just in case this gives me more control over things like file associations after the install. oddly enough, i can select and deselect anything on the long list INCLUDING photoshop cs4, EXCEPT for bridge cs4 (ok a lot of the sub components are un-de-selectable too). go figure...
ok. go go gadget INSTALL!
wait! did it ask me what drive? i don't think so...? it's going anyway. most likely to my c: drive. grr... i wanted to (meant to) select G. user error? probably. maybe...
ok walk away for 10 minutes to save my blood pressure. come back and it's hung at about 75% done because now "Adobe AIR" app installer want access to 199.7.48.190 on the internet. WTF?!! ok, again.
side note while install continues... i let the adobe installer (cs3) do it's thing weekly, so i should have all the latest components for stuff that existed prior to cs4 release. i wonder if this is going to roll any of them back?
looks like it's heading for the home stretch. the progress bars are at about 90% (there's no actual percent reading, just bars going across the install window.)
ok. cool. cs4 install complete. looks like everything installed good.

now, let's take er for a spin... as a good friend mine say: "it's time to put your butt in the pudding!" (it's probably best not to ask WHY he says that... )

as far as i can tell, it didn't, except that it lets you select or deselect components. at this stage, i don't think it would be wise to de-select anything there...

note to adobe... not sure if it's meant to be, but directory browsing IS ALLOWED at that address... especially since your robots.txt file is telling search engines not to index it... and there's a lot of certificate and verisign stuff out there. might want to lock that down...

It won't be fun till you do some serious video watching dave. All 77 of them on the Help Page.
BTW on-line Help is the default option now but it's worth it while you're learning.

doh! That should have been GB, of course, in both instances. You didn't really think I really meant megabytes? Surely not!!
A minor mental aberration on my part, brought on no doubt by recent trials and tribulations with Adobe software. (It was probably very late at night (in this timezone).)
Did anyone spare a thought for the turkeys?

I guess so, though most of the time I just want to move the working image so that an adjacent area fills the screen. The navigator already provides a quick means of navigating much larger distances. Perhaps this new feature is a plus, and just takes a bit of getting used to.
Can it be turned off, or some 'friction' applied, if one cannot live with it?

The amount of swoosh is proportional to the distance you move the hand cursor.
Still with the Hand Tool, pressing the "H" key and holding down the mouse button is 1000 times better than the bloody Navigator.
Get with it you guys.

Whoops...
That was one of the free gift options with the photoshop purchase, but I chose the font instead.
I figured the font wouldn't expire. And I liked it. Since one of the things I do is photo haiga I think the font will come in very handy.

Yes. And my optimum learning path would be Classroom in a Book followed up with a month or two on Lynda.com.
It's amazing how many videos you can watch in a month!
That's how I learned InDesign after they killed my other layout program.

The reason I ask is that when I insert a memory card, auto-play for Bridge isn't activated. It is for LR 64bit. So, I'm assuming that Bridge is not 64 bit.
Why and will it be in a future (free) upgrade?
== 2 of 2 ==
Date: Sat, Nov 29 2008 9:53 am
From: Bob Levine
You don't just snap your fingers and make something 64 bit. Further, not
every application is going to see any benefit from it.
If Bridge does go 64 bit it won't be until CS5 at the earliest.

But what a boon!

The new CS4 feature that allows a mouse drag-resize of a brush size or hardness is useful but for some reason I have lost the red overlay. It worked once but nothing I do - reset preferences, change brush preview colour, restart Ps or computer - brings this visual preview back.
What happened and how do I get it back? Without the colour preview a brush drag-resize is a guessing game.

Hello,
A week or so ago there was a thread of HDR and more specifically about using
one raw image as the source for an HDR image to recovery highlights, etc. I
promised that I would post a tutorial for my technique on using a single raw
file for highlight recovery. Well here it is:

I'm about to install the cs4 master collection on my laptop...sony
vaio t7100 dual processor 1.80 ghz windows vista 32 bit system -Nvidia
GeForce 8400M GT. My cs3 master collection runs flawlessly, and the
demo versions of DW FW Flash CS4 do as well. It has been my experience
that getting the lowdown on install before hand leads to best results.
I'm a bit confused as I do my homework on this one. What exactly are
the issues what should I do to assure best possible results this time?
I can usually zone right in on best case scenario info by starting
with photoshop user research...but this time I seem to be hitting a
brick wall...the info is just so conflicting...am I missing
something??? Guide me please...Many thanks in advance from a long time
loyal Adobe devotee
