To each his own, but if Adobe can demonstrate conclusivly that, with a system basicaaly configured to be reasonably close to universal, this card and this driver will perfom as speced by Adobe. In the interests of getting feedback, offering a short time loan to qualified users would, IMO, garner significant additional data points to be valuable.

My opinion anyway!:-)

Paul, your position on expensive cards is tantamount to expecting a $50,000 Lexus to perform as well in extreme conditions as a 10 year old jeep Wrangler then blaming the terrain for the problem.

There appears to be no universal autos and no universal video cards. :-(

See <http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/11/status_updates.html>

It seems to suggest that Adobe are recognising the complications of GPU, perhaps?

I quote, "GPUs are pretty fascinating, and there are some things they do really well & others really badly."

Lawrence,

To restate what I said, I have an Nvidia Quadra FX 3700, it is on Adobe's "tested and approved list" of video cards. As I said, it handles all other 3d apps just fine. So, I have an "approved card" running the latest driver, an up-to-date system running a supported operating system on a clean install of windows and the only application installed is the CS4 Design Premium Suite. As a consumer, I have met or exceeded all the requirements that Adobe puts forth, I'm not using a Lexus, I'm only running what Adobe says I need. So I'm sorry, but I don't see your analogy.

Paul

Paul, I have that card and have no problems with the GPU features.

Thanks, Paul. I didn't know you were using an approved card. The analogy is intended for cards that may not be on the list, yet pricy.

I know John, You've said before your system is working fine. I'm on XP sp3, and it didn't make any difference what driver I used. That's why I've said that it's not as simple as "just get this card and this driver and it's going to work." People with the same card and driver are seeing different results, even some people like yourself who are running Vista 64 are seeing problems. I have no idea what the problem is, I'm just responding to the comment that suggested that the problem might lie with defective hardware. I wouldn't doubt that assumption if the problem was less prevalent, however, the fact that the Adobe techs are all over this like I've not seen before, suggests to me that there are other issues and the difficulties are effecting a fairly good number of people.

That's just my two cents and that's about all it's worth.

* uggh* Why Photoshop? You would have a much better workflow in Illustrator, which is actually what you should look into if you're doing this regularly. Beyond that - the path tools haven't been changed in ages, except for some bug cleaning and changes in the shortcuts, so one could assume they provide the same (limited) feature set in any version of PS, including v6. You should see the pen and anchor point tools in your toolbar...

Yes, sounds like a graphics card problem in combination with a bug in PS. Another user also reported this and it seems, that on certain setups using NVidia cards the program does not request a screen refresh. The user in question wrote his own little testing tool, but obviously this does not help you much, so I guess you are stuck with the problem. You could just try to change your graphics card settings and see if one of the combinations makes PS behave better...

Freeagent:

It doesn't make sense, but that's what's happening. On my wide gamut NEC 3090 display, it's quite obvious when you view an sRGB profiled image in a non CM application - colors are oversaturated, especially reds. I see the same non-CM look when using the save-for-web tool set to "monitor color" (BTW, it's nice to have CM viewing options in the PS CS4 "save for web" control panel).

Stefan:

I'm not seeing banding in a ProPhoto RGB test gradient, or converting the gradient to other spaces, or viewing sans profile.

As I experimented last night with GPU settings, the bird's eye view block blurring increased dramatically. It's not a matter of time holding down the h key to allow the image to fully load, a rectangular patch of the overall image is blurry and remains blurry no matter how much time the view is held. I'm not able to replicate the issue with those settings this morning and I'm wondering if this problem shows up more when doing the bird's eye zoom from certain image zoom percentages.

That's expected. sRGB is a smaller gamut, so of course viewing the rgb numbers in sRGB will look less saturated than when viewing them on your wide gamut monitor outside of a colour-managed application.

BJ,
my B/W gradient in ProPhoto looks terrible in the shadows, where I get red and green color shifts as well as posterization.
The blurry birds-eye view is depending on how large the picture is.
I don`t get any blurred areas on a 3000*4000px picture, but on a 4000*6000px it gets extremely blurred.
I have a Geforce 8600GT with 512MB and Vista 32 Ultimate with 4G RAM.

Peter K:

I agree that viewing with "monitor color" (no CM) the saturation is expected. I just mentioned it as an illustration of what I see after applying a profile conversion, indicating that post conversion the image window is no longer color managed - or at least it looks just like it lost CM.

Stefan:

The image that I've been testing the bird's eye view is 10,000 x 3700 pixels. Sometimes I see a blurry block but the occurance varies - as well as size and location. I'm not seeing color shifts or posterization. My current card is an EVGA nVidia 9800 GTX, 512MB (installed yesterday). XP Pro 32, 4GB machine. With this new card, 2D performance is testing really slow - half or less than my prior ATI 3400 card. Not sure if that's setting related. CS4 will certainly drive graphics card sales, at least for those of us used to buying cards for 2D quality and not worried about rendering speed.

I would also think you just could have "removed" the cards from your device manager and have Windows scan for them again. Assigning new device ID's in reverse order might have just yielded the result you desired.

Quick answer:

Find out just enough about HTML to know where to place the <center> and </center> tags.

Hit Google for basic html tutorials

You'll find a skadillion of them.

If you don't want to dig in and learn HTML you might just want to use a page template, and you can find thousands of free ones, also with a Google search.

The tag is deprecated and should not be used any longer. Instead you may wish to create a and extend it with a style align:center;. Should look something like this when complete:

Meh...it still works, and for somebody who knows next-to-nothing about CSS and getting a page to look the way they want it, it'll do just fine.

When it quits working in most browsers, then I'd start worrying that my meager understanding of page coding needs a refill and upgrading.

if you can't log in, and it's asking for a password you didn't set, either 1) someone else has access to your system and set a password, or 2) you have something doing malware-like things on your system.

If you can't log in, change your password using your Windows CD and product key.

Boot up from your Windows CD. When you get to the Welcome screen press ENTER to Setup Windows. On the license agreement page, press F8 and continue. Highlight the Windows installation you want to log into and press R to begin repair.

Let repair do it's thing. After it copies some files, your machine will need to be rebooted. After the reboot, setup will continue (you will NOT need to press a key to boot from the CD!). Look out for "Installing Devices" in the middle left side of the screen. When you see it, press SHIFT+F10 to call-up the command prompt. Now type NUSRMGR.CPL and press ENTER. Choose any account and change the password to whatever you want. If you don't want to be asked for a password, type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 at the prompt and select log on without being asked for a password.

Close your command prompt window (and the user account window if you have that open). Let repair continue. You will be asked for your product key. Type it in as necessary and hit NEXT to allow repair to complete.

Once it's done, your machine will reboot and you can log in using your new password.

It's a registry key not being updated/ deleted. If you search your registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, you may find your associations still set to Photoshop.Image.10 or so. Deleting these faulty entries should release the setting and allow you to associate PSDs via Explorer. A user provided a detailed explanation a week ago or so, I just never remember the links to those threads. Sorry. A quick search or sifting through the pages should turn it up, though. Ss for Bride's own associations, they are stored in C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS4\Resources\Adobe Bridge opener Preferences.xml.
