Used the filter on a mask which I incorporated into the background. This is another of those filters that I have never used before inspite of having them on the computer since the dawn of time. Thanks Diane for the challenge.

[The_Ultimate_Tut_Site] TUTORIAL WRITERS PLEASE READ
| ||||||
I would like to ask the tutorial writers to please NOT send through tutorials without the proper copyright credit. If your tag has an image it has to properly credited. There are a few that have slipped through recently and to be honest, Rach and I don't have the time to check each tutorial to make sure that it is copyright compliant. We are trusting that you will be responsible in this matter. If I do notice a tutorial that isn't properly credited, I won't allow it through. Sorry. xoxo, RodeoQueen | ||||||

You have to exit Bridge before shutting down computer. Problem arises with the option to automatically start Bridge on computer start up.

Somewhere I saw a missing "Contact Sheet II" fix for CS4. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
The PDF contact in CS4 is not flexable and is very limited. You can't see it in Bridge or make changes like you can to a jpg contact sheet.
Thanks Marv.

Thank you Zeno for your quick reply. It is appreciated!
I'm glad to have read your posted based on the fact that I had an Nvidia 6200 in my hot little hands today! I decided not to buy it based on available video memory, 256MB. From what I've gathered so far from Adobe, 516 MB seems to allow more OpenGL 2 functionality to Photoshop CS4.
My own investigations seem to agree with your statement regarding AGP availability for ATI and ATI Partner video cards. The same is true of NVidia AGP video cards being harder to find. And thanks to your reply, I now know why!
Regarding ATI Partner Video Cards, I've noticed that there can be quite a difference in Price Point for the same ATI technology card.
Generally, or if you have specific examples, what causes differing ATI Partners to price their product(s) at differing Price Points?
How about Nvidia Partners? Why the price differences?
Again, I thank you for your input. I shall look into both the ATI Video Cards that you've suggested.

I got some great help here back in February when I had only been studying Photoshop for two weeks. Now I'm a seasoned user of three months. [Hysterical laughter!] I'm on that hamster wheel where you do the thing over and over again and can't see why it isn't working. Excuse me while I run to the kitchen for some cracked corn and greens...
I'm wanting to wrap a snake texture over a woman's face similar to what I found in a tutorial here:
<http://www.tutcity.com/view/texture-wrapping.2843.html>
When I did this tutorial everything worked fine, but it is not working when I do it with my own document. The breakdown is in the filter>distort>displace step.
This is what happens when I do it
I created a grayscale image of a face and saved it on the background layer (which I unlocked by renaming it Layer 1).
The grayscale image has plenty of light and dark areas-- good contrast.
I saved that doc as "bighead.psd," and it has only one [unlocked] layer.
I DID save with Maximize Compatibility turned ON. And I saved it in a folder with the snakeskin document that I will be wrapping over it. [These were two possible displace function issues that I found in a search of this forum.]
I go to the doc that has the snakeskin on a layer. I control-click on the layer thumbnail to select the snakeskin.
I go to filter>distort>displace.
I choose 10% horizontal and 10% vertical, stretch to fit, and repeat edge pixels.
I navigate to the document "bighead.psd" and hit okay.
Not only does nothing happen, but NOTHING EVEN SHOWS UP IN THE HISTORY PANEL.
After doing this a zillion times, I tried an experiment.
I went to the document with the snakeskin, control-clicked on the layer thumbnail to select.
I chose filter>distort>displace, but instead of navigating to bighead.psd (the displacement map I created), I navigated to the displacement map that I downloaded used earlier today when I was doing the tutorial (also a psd document, a grayscale image of a woman's face).
I made exactly the same choices as described above, and when I hit "open," the displacement DID work and the step "displace" DID show up in the history panel. I figured something must be different about the two displacement map documents???
I've brought both displacement map documents up side by side in two windows and I've been going back and forth between them trying to see any difference.
I know the software is very literal-minded, so there must be some small thing wrong that I'm not seeing. I hope someone can see what I'm not seeing.
Thanks.

Karla,
Did you go to the Microsoft typography website?
I just cut and paste the help page for you to look at:
Make text easier to read using ClearType
ClearType font technology makes the text on your screen almost as sharp and clear as text that is printed on paper. It is on by default in this version of Windows.
To get the full benefit of ClearType, you'll need a high-quality, flat-panel monitor, such as LCD or plasma. Even on a CRT monitor, you might get some improvement in readability with ClearType.
ClearType improves the readability of text on your display
To tune ClearType
You can use the online tuner to further adjust the legibility of on-screen items.
Go to the Microsoft typography website, and then follow the instructions for tuning ClearType.
To turn on ClearType
Click to open Appearance Settings.
Click Effects.
In the Effects dialog box, select Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts.
Select ClearType in the list, and then click OK.
Note
Whether you select Standard or ClearType from the list, you must have a video card and monitor that support a color setting of at least 256 colors. You'll get the best results with High color (24-bit) or Highest color (32-bit) support. You can change color quality in Display Settings in Control Panel.
Click to open Display Settings.

I have given up hope on getting cs4 to work on my old computer (multiprocessor server board) but what about cs3? My system seems to meet the minimum requirements but I had no luck running cs4 and cs3 is not functioning properly. Can someone take a look at these specs and tell me if this system should run cs3? I know it is an old system but I have not had any problems with it since it was new and do not plan on getting rid of it any time soon.

RAID 1 will help protect from data loss as it mirror images on all drives the same. One fails the other 3 you can still run with. Biggest draw back is the you lose about 50 percent of total storage space. Too much waste for me. I never went RAID.
Raymond: Last year I was just reading up on RAID for Photoshop and 3d max runnig faster. But as Bob pointed out, and I agree with him, that a back up hard drive is much better. Safer anyways. I just use 2 300 gig velociraptors as separate drives.
As mentioned above there is a lot more involved like other hardware and motherboard and such.

because it doesn't really matter what happens when one drive containing
valuable data crashes if you don't have it
backed up.
not really. if you lose a drive out of a raid array you have slim to no chance of recovering it. if a single drive crashes, chances are fair to very good you can get back most or all of what was on the drive at some point, depending on your determination (or what's in your wallet).

From: Jim_Strenk@adobeforums.com
Prior to my recent purchase and installation of PS CS4 Standard, I had downloaded and installed PS CS4 Extended, which is the TRIAL VERSION of PS CS4.
I've noticed several difference between the TRIAL VERSION and Standard.
While using the TRIAL VERSION, The Arrange Documents Pull down showed all the icons within sections 1 and 2.
With the Standard Version installed the same icons associated with the Arrange Documents Pull down are no longer visible.
While using the TRIAL VERSION, image magnifications of 500% or higher were displaying the Pixel Grid.
With the Standard Version installed, those same magnifications NO LONGER SHOW the Pixel Grid.
While using the TRIAL VERSION, the Preferences - Performance GPU Dialog box was grayed out.
With the Standard Version the GPU Dialog box is stilled grayed out, but now reveals (in black text) that "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard".
Was the OpenGL specs for the TRIAL VERSION somehow "loosened" or made less stringent versus the OpenGL specs for PS CS4?
Is there any other explanation for the differences in OpenGL performance between the TRIAL VERSION and the Standard version?
Any tips, suggestions or errata on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

I'm wondering if anybody knows of a way, short of reinstalling, to switch the default language for the various CS4 tools. I appear to have somehow set up for "English UK" instead of "English USA".
Thanks in advance.

Nothing at all. Much gets by you as usual, Alfie*. To recap, you
asked for a formula (yes, *you* asked, remember?) using crop
factors. David answered your request as I mentioned in my last
reply, telling you to "ignore" crop factors. Do you agree with his
position, that crop factors don't provide enough accuracy? If you
do, then it's good that you've finally learned that crop factors are
so inaccurate as to be nearly useless, and are to be ignored.

I asked for a formula to calculate the FoV. That I mentioned crop
factors is irrelevant (just ignore that). But frankly I don't understand

Yes, that's very clear. In the future it might be useful to
provide clues as to which parts of your posts are irrelevant. For
all anyone knew, the "formula" that you requested might have been
the irrelevant word, when what you really wanted was a table of
values. Except for those living in some far off land, words and
their usages aren't as elastic as you seem to think.

Definitely does look like a Cooper's. As the Cooper's has such a wide
range it doesn't apply in this case, but generally when asking for an ID
of a bird it helps to give where/when info. Incidentally, in Austin TX
we have what seems like a very large number of both Cooper's and
Red-tails nowadays. It is unusual to drive along our urban expressways
without seeing several, hanging around waiting for lunch to venture out.

Coopers are all grey and lighter and that one looks big, like a

That is a Cooper's Hawk, the 3 tail chevrons with the last one broader
and darker is diagnostic.
This is much smaller than even a light morph Red Tail.
If you were going to mistake it for anything else a possibility might
be a Sharp Shinned Hawk, but it is smaller and there are 4 tail
chevrons evenly colored, so Cooper's it is.

I had an old ricoh that had EC. It was an extra dial

Well, it is a lot better than the front, no question. But that wouldn't
work, would it?
OK, how about "self-portrait" for the next mandate? I'll be gentle.

We all know wetbacks are great with lawns, very cunning, incredible
swimmers, and love to migrate to find better opportunities for their family.
But who would have thought they would love the D3x so much?

Silly goose.

As your Wetback lawyer, I advise you that your posts are annoying as
hell, although they contain links to some really great photos that
would do well in speaking for themselves, without any hype via
nauseating cutesy usenet posts or subject lines.
I further advise you to take your references to specific photographic
gear, and all of your exclamation marks, and violently cram them up
your goddamn ugly, diseased, attention-whore ass until you shit blood
for weeks.
HAND.
